Through resourcefulness and rigorous dedication to my craft I create sustainable textural weavings of the environmental subject matter that address our throwaway material culture.

Ninety-Three Billion cubic meters of water
In countries such as Bangladesh and China the polluted water (mostly from dying and finishing processes) is often dumped into surrounding rivers, causing harm to wildlife and occupants of surrounding towns. It is easy for us as consumers to remain ignorant of the consequences of manufacturing our purchases when we are not faced with them. The title 'Ninety-Three Billion cubic meters of water' refers to the estimated annual water usage of the textile industry. I hope to show the beauty of recycling and make people more conscious of their own consumption through my work.
In an ideal to make my practice as sustainable as possible, this piece is made from scraps of reused and recycled materials and any dyes I used were created using natural ingredients such as fruits, plants and spices. Through my desire to remain environmentally friendly, I had to become resourceful with my materials such as creating my own glue from flour and sourcing supplies from skips to create something new from scraps.
