My professional practice is a study of self-reflection that articulates my sense of self into ethereal visualisations. Within my practice, painting is a self-therapizing process that enables me to address my own anxieties and share my vulnerabilities with others. The act of painting is both a physical and emotional pursuit, preceded by an exploration of colour, that induces a subliminal reflection into me in search of my own inner truth. Growing up with a hearing impairment, I struggle to navigate my surroundings audibly and rely on the visual as a dominant sense of perception, which I accentuate through the colour within my paintings to reflect my emotional sensibilities. Effected as a form of catharsis, my paintings seek to capture the essence of my audio-visual relationship with my surroundings. The compositions of my paintings induce a sense of movement and illusion, as different colours submerge into one another, to reflect my emotional sensibilities and mirror the deterioration of my hearing.



I apply multiple thin layers of oil paint over a distempered ground when I construct my paintings. The process of layering within the creation of my paintings reflects the layers of myself and the walls I have built up around me. The first layer is chaotic, raw and vulnerable as I am initiating a preliminary investigation into me. It is an authentic reflection of myself, which emphasises my intrinsic vulnerabilities. However, this layer is never truly publicised to the viewer as other layers mask it. Therefore, building depth within my paintings is paramount to my practice as I am interested in constructing a heuristic body of cathartic self-portraits that viewers can receive intimately through an immersive transaction.
