Making Sense of the Self
A Dichotomous View of the Self
Oil and tempera pigment on canvas, 342 x 150cm, 2022
'A Dichotomous View of the Self' presents a diptych, configured in the form of an open narrative through accentuated tones of pink and blue, which seeks to analyse the complexities of the development of the self. Situated within the corner of a space, it invites the viewer into an immersive experience of colour to impose a mode of reflection and contemplation on their surroundings. Exploring the relationship of creativity to self-actualisation and how the perception of colour enhances an understanding of one's sense of self through the realisation of personal experience, this piece provides a bridge to the emotional sensibilities of others.
