Shisha Embellishment Experimentation
I explored the South Asian embellishment technique of Shisha to create intricate details in embroidery samples.
Silk Thread Embroidery
I used my initial drawings of found embellishments to experiment with silk thread hand embroidery, inspired by traditional Chinese techniques such as Su.
Beading
I learned how to bead, and recreated my initial mark-making and drawings on top of the fabric that I naturally dyed with onion skins and turmeric.
Layering of photographs
I layered photography of my initial embroidery on a Lightbox and photographed again until I was able to imitate a sense of movement, which relates back to my initial research into performance-based embellishment. I then deconstructed these images to create 3-Dimensional forms using decoupage.
