Medication Without Waste (RSA & GSK) - Overview

The way in which Pharmacies deliver the repeat prescription service is outdated, creating inefficiencies and errors within the pharmaceutical world, resulting in massive plastic and energy waste. Prevalent issues such as medication non-adherence among the elderly are not the only contributor to the economic costs of waste, but can also lead to increased demands and strain on healthcare services like the NHS.

This new sustainable adherence packaging and service introduce a new method to reduce errors by medical professionals and significantly improve a patient’s accessibility and adherence/to their repeat prescription medication plans. The subsequent waste reduction would help the industry further comply with circular economy principles and support the environment.

System Diagram - An upgraded supply chain

It introduces a new ‘Dispensing service’ that a pharmacy subscribes to and benefits from. This service accepts responsibility for sorting all medications into patient-specific deliveries based on prescription de information provided by pharmacists and GPs.

Panasonic Sense - Live project

Panasonic Sense is designed to aid the distresses of home living for dementia sufferers, acclimatising them through various senses to carers and family, aiding in linking associated memories with specific people.

Sense - Overview

Dementia is a growing issue. In the UK, it is estimated that 850,000 people suffer from this neurological disorder which greatly impacts their ability to remember, think and make decisions. Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) are common amongst patients suffering from dementia, causing patients to become stressed or agitated from confusion over their environment, location and who they are with. These factors increase the responsibility that caregivers face. With 61% of sufferers over 65 choosing to remain within their homes, better support is needed for those with dementia and their caregivers.

Sense - Multiple Senses

Sense Is aimed at the senses. With an LED integrated light, facilitating bright light therapy, used for its promising effects on reducing restlessness and disturbed sleep for people with dementia, can help reduce symptoms of BPSD. Sense has a built-in diffuser allowing a selection of aromas to comfort dementia sufferers and acclimatise them to visitors such as carers and family, aiding in linking associated memories with specific people.
