Hi, I am Charlotte Aukland. I've always believed that in design, the user comes first. Having a clear understanding of the user's key needs is the fountation of any good design.

Venepuncture Training Tool for Student Nurses
Venepuncture Training Tool in Practice
VENI is a training tool for student nurses to practice venepuncture (taking blood) in a home environment. In the aftermath of COVID and the introduction of hybrid working, using simulations instead of in-person experience is becoming a lot more common. Although the reaction to this in the nursing community is mixed, many see this as an opportunity to gain confidence and be able to practice without causing any real damage.
Making Practicals More Representative of Real Life
With my final year project, I have tried to make a more representative training tool that captures the intensity and realism of working in a hospital.
Nursing students need to be ready to transition from their studies to a real hospital environment. My product aims to help nursing students practice their key skills under high stress to build their confidence and prepare them for the challenges ahead.
Creating Silicone Prototypes
It was important also to demonstrate the variation of skin types too. Skin colour, texture, and thickness all impact how a health care professional performs a task. These samples were created from Silicone to give the experience of skin.

Awards
The Gorbutt Cup for Design & Technology - An award I recieved before coming to Loughborough University, demonstrating my commitment to my Design & Technology A-Level
Work Experience
During my placement at Smith & Nephew, my main challenge was learning a new speciality in Human Factors. Within this, I understood that low fidelity prototyping was key to helping people visualise potential design solutions quickly and better illustrate what we were trying to achieve.
At MasterMovers, I was exposed to technology I had never seen before - electric tugs capable of moving loads a thousand times their size. During this experience, I improved my CAD skills significantly by adding new features to the tugs to develop their capabilities even further.
