Work Experience

Vanderhurd - September - October 2020:
Studio Assistant:
My role as a studio assistant in this bespoke high-end textile company varied throughout the internship between the fabrics, sales and the carpet department. With a keen interest in interior textiles, exploring this sector gave me an in-depth understanding and appreciation for the industry. During my experience with the studio, tasks included organisation, archiving, customer service, enquiries, shipping and sampling. Helping with the day-to-day running of the studio relieved pressure across the small team due to the number of tasks and responsibilities that needed to be managed. Personal skills such as timekeeping, communication, collaboration and organisation were important attributes which I developed during my experience. The hands-on placement was invaluable and exposed me to the diversity within the bespoke interior textile industry.

Fairbairn and Wolf Studio - January - April 2021:
Print Design Intern:
As a print design intern, my role was to create and develop ideas for different themes in order to create a variety of successful print designs, which will be sold to the high street and high-end fashion retailers.

Although my internship experience was remote, it has allowed me to establish and recognise my personal style of design and refine my skills and knowledge of printed textiles. The internship has developed my team working skills, independent thinking, resilience, creativity and adaptability, as well as learning to overcome creative challenges. I consider my confidence and artistry to have developed throughout my experience because I was pushed and encouraged to try new themes, styles and approaches which I haven't explored before.

Saloni London: July - September 2021:
Print and embroidery Intern:
My internship at Saloni required me to assist in the print design, fabric and embroidery departments to assist with the production of the Spring/Summer 22 collection and High Summer 22. Being exposed to the other departments including logistics, production, fashion design and atelier has informed me how fast-paced, complex and team reliant the fashion industry can be. Responsibilities included trend research, colour matching, rescaling and deconstructing artwork, lab dips, visualisations and print design. Furthermore, the experience has allowed me to develop my digital skills and techniques to help refine and edit artwork to a high professional standard.

Experience in a fashion studio placement has given me an understanding of another creative sector, broadening my knowledge of the industry. I have understood the importance of communication, organisation, collaboration and observation during this placement.
