Aster- A plant monitoring device to improve the benefits houseplants have on people's wellbeing.
Aster- A plant monitoring device to improve the benefits plants have on people's wellbeing.
Houseplants have a range of different physical and mental health benefits, but so many die because of improper care reducing the positive effects they have on people. Aster helps monitor the conditions around the plant and communicates back to the user how they can help, allowing them to build a better relationship with their now happy and healthy plant.
Aster- Functional prototype
Aster uses a voice recognition board to allow the user to communicate around their plant, and responds back to them with how it is, how the user can help, and general greetings. The screen displays various facial expressions depending on how suitable the conditions are around the plant to help the user know when they need to move or water it.
Aster- A range of emotions
A range of facial expressions was created to demonstrate how appropriate the conditions are around the plant. Sad faces were used to show when the plant is not getting enough light or the humidity is wrong, and a sweating face was used to demonstrate the plant being in unsuitable direct sunlight. Tired and sleeping faces were also created and coded to appear in the evening when the lighting does not matter for the plant.
Sync- An app to help energy reduction
Sync is an app designed to help families, where one member works night shifts, to connect together better and reduce their energy consumption and bills. The app allows the users to delegate tasks for the family members to complete, as well as see their energy and water usage. It tells them the best times to use their devices and how much they are saving, along with suggesting articles that can help them to save even more money. The app was designed using Figma as well as graphics made on Adobe Illustrator.
Sync- wireframes
The wireframes show the user's journey through the Sync app, including the pages they would scroll through and those they would tap into, like adding new events or tasks.

Work Experience
During my placement year, I worked as a design intern at Spirit of Hertfordshire distillery. I worked on designing new labels and adapting old labels for the different gins, from month-long projects to designs needed by the week. I also spent a large proportion creating a new range of cocktail sets, developing my Adobe skills.
