Final year project
Improving the quality and frequency of hydration in order to improve users mental and physical wellbeing
IC
IC is a smart water bottle that aims to improve the quality of hydration in the millions of adults that are unknowingly dehydrated every day.
Why are people not drinking enough? Two reasons, poor tasting water & lack of habit.
The taste of water can be closely correlated with the temperature, research shows that temperatures between 5-15 degrees are ideal and most pleasant for dinking. Tap water can also be contaminated with common impurities that can further lead to bad taste and even smell.
Research also states that just being forgetful is one of the primary causes of lack of hydration.
Design
Styled with subtlety in mind. Designed to fit into various different environments. IC comes in both black and white.
How It Works
With the bottle filled up and docked, the user may select the desired level of cooling between 5 & 15 degrees Celsius by rotating the large external ring on the dock highlighted by a darker or lighter blue hue.
Once the water inside the bottle has reached the desired level a white flash will appear.
A red pulse will alert the user they have not picked up the bottle for a while indicating that they should drink.
Once the user has picked up the bottle and had a drink they are rewarded with a pulse of green light.
Exploded View
All parts have been designed with manufacture and assembly in mind.
Refillable Water Filter
Designed to enhance the taste of the water by absorbing common impurities in tap water like Chlorine, Mercury, Zinc, and Copper enhancing both the taste and remove any odour. The filter is designed to be refilled and uses burnt coconut shell carbon (charcoal) meaning there is no damaging waste when the filter needs replacing.
Lid
No unscrewing or turning the bottle to take a sip. The aluminium cap uses a push to open mechanism, surrounded by a 360-degree spout made from an antimicrobial polymer.
TEC - Thermoelectric Cooler
The internal lower wall of the bottle houses a thermoelectric device, which allows the theatre to be chilled.
Unwanted heat is generated opposite the cool side of the TEC and is managed by blowing air up through the heatsink and out the vent above.
