Homegrown - An interior modular hydroponic growing system
Homegrown Planters within Interior Context
The modular design of the Homegrown planter enables the opportunity to adapt in height and supports the growth of herbs, microgreens and leafy greens. The integration of the hydroponic nutrient film technique, an automated grow light and a water pump ensures the strong growth of plants and easy maintenance of the Homegrown planter no matter the user's lifestyle. We’ve all experienced the short shelf life of shop-bought produce…through the use of the Homegrown planter, users can reduce their purchasing consumption and experience that satisfying feeling of growing your own produce without mess or stress while leading a more sustainable way of life.
Grow Pot Removal and Branding
The Homegrown planter has been designed for integration into interior spaces with the seamless interlocking of parts and textured detailing on the base. The planter's modular nature ensures ease of assembly with additional growing levels available to purchase via the Homegrown app should the user decide to expand their planter in size. Each grow pot is easily removable, to ensure cleaning, harvesting or replanting is simple.
Homegrown App Screens
The Homegrown planter is supported by a linked app so the user can keep a check on both the progress of their plant's growth and the cycle of their growth light as well as give a helpful reminder when it is time to empty and refill the reservoir. The Homegrown experience is enhanced by offering users the opportunity to connect with other 'Homegrowers' plus the ability to access relevant materials such as tips and advice. Recipes can also be explored to give inspiration on how to best use the plants being grown. There is also a shop section, so more seeds, nutrients or additional growing levels can easily be purchased. A key aspect of the app provides the user with feedback regarding their sustainable contribution as a result of their collection and recycling of reservoir water from what would have been wastewater.
Planter Customisation
Interior focused customisation options are available for the user to choose from upon purchasing, depending on their existing interior style. The options available are muted in tone and chosen to complement the vibrancy of the growing plants.
Talk to Tess Emotional Support Device
45% of doctors suffer from stress, anxiety or depression as a result of the extreme emotional stress they are burdened with. Talk to Tess is an emotional well-being device supporting those at the heart of the NHS. NHS staff frequently experience emotionally draining challenges and it is important they are able to share their experiences and similarly hear what their colleagues are going through too. Instead of feeling isolated, by using Tess they have immediate access to a practical support system.
Compact and Hygienic Device
Convenience is key during busy shifts, this is reflected within the compact design which ensures space is not compromised in already crowded NHS staff rooms. The device is easy to use, simply remove it from the wall holder to use and replace it to ensure it is fully charged for the next user. NHS staff can interact with the device as much or as little as they desire, with the ward manager able to access responses creating a better comprehension of how their team is coping in terms of emotional stress.
User Interface
For busy staff with little spare time and full schedules, the device interface is clear and easy to follow. The use of the device fits seamlessly within hectic daily routines. NHS staff have the option to talk about an emotionally draining experience, share the experience by writing their story down or listen to other colleagues' recordings. This created a supportive and more healthy environment within a stressed and strained workforce.
Powerie - Electric Vehicle Charging Smart App
Powerie is a smart app providing a time-efficient and convenient solution for the inadequate infrastructure currently available for electric vehicle (EV) charging. The app is linked to the user’s EV battery which allows them to reserve a battery quickly and easily from a local smart hub at a time and location most convenient for them. The local smart hubs are powered by solar energy from those part of the Powerie network, making those integrated into the system feel the satisfaction of being part of the bigger sustainable movement.

Work Experience
V2 Studios / Vitamin - Junior Industrial Designer Aug 2021 - Sept 2022
I developed invaluable skills during my year in the industry by being involved in a variety of design projects. Daily responsibilities within their lighting and furniture business gave me insightful knowledge of how a business is run and the importance of communication with clients. This experience gave me opportunities to work in a range of disciplines including design, packaging, research, prototyping and manufacturing.
Barney and the Pizza - Graphic Designer 2019
A start-up mobile pizza company gave me the opportunity to implement a rebranding across the business which included creating a new logo and core brand colours. This was rolled out across a variety of materials including business cards, staff t-shirts and menus. This was an invaluable experience which improved my communication, organisational and graphics skills. I was also able to build on my Adobe Creative Cloud skills within programmes including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
