Ocular, a portable eye diagnostic device for use by professionals in patient homes
Ocular
With an increase in ageing populations globally, eye disease will continue to rise as people live longer in society. For those individuals in society who cannot independently go in-store, home testing takes place, however, this leads to pressure being put on travelling optometrists to get the diagnosis right. Much of the current home testing equipment is outdated which is why Ocular was designed. Ocular uses artificial intelligence to co-diagnose single or burst photographs of the patient's eye. Photos can then be used for later referral and diagnosis of disease at secondary care locations.
Within Ocular
Ocular’s two-part design meant an efficient and organised internal structure had to design to power the top camera, LCD display and brushless motor. The handle houses the PCBs and lower battery compartment.
Charging Case
A portable demand means Ocular requires charging during transport. The hard-shelled charging case protects Ocular
in-between patient visits and keeps the device on a full charge. The case can be charged with the smoking or USB connection in a caring environment.
Ocular Gimbal
Ocular has a one-axis gimbal to allow rotational movement of the device whilst keeping the screen and camera elements still and focused on the patient. This was functionally prototyped during the project.
Ocular Travel
The product is split into two parts, a head plus handle and then stored in the charging case during transport.
Ocular lens
Ocular has a 2-60 dioptres magnification, for full internal eye capabilities. A central light is used by the professional to see into the eye. There are 6 light filters; large, medium, small, green, slit, and blue.
Airbnb Settl.
Settl. - Design Week Project. A home system provided by the host that helps to settle guests into their new environment, through the use of a central home information hub, light stimulus device and aromatherapy diffusion, to create a home away from home. The light stimulus uses circadian rhythm patterns that replicate the sun's colour and strength according to the time chosen. This helps guests adjust to their new location or timezone and recover from travel fatigue. The aromatherapy uses scent diffusion to create psychological connections with relaxation and calmness
Airbnb Settl. Home System
The smart mirror displays relevant home information and replaces the need for guest books and user logbooks. The system works alongside the light and aromatherapy device together to give a full welcome experience to users who need efficiency after periods of travel.

Work Experience
FutureNova - Product Design Intern
I gained valuable experience within this small medical design company, from leading my own 8-month project, to being an integral member of the design team. I was able to gain experience in the entire creative process, whilst learning the key business and strategy skills to enhance my design decision making. The year furthered my 3D CAD and rendering skills which allowed me to present a high level of work internally and externally to clients.
Factory Design - Product Design, work experience
I worked alongside the design team for a week during which I worked on an individual project, which following its completion was presented to the team for feedback.
